Ok, after a long self-enforced hiatus, I think I'm back on the NewsVine crack...
It's been months since I picked you up old friend, but I just had to walk away. I found myself checking my posting votes 10, 20, 50 times a day. I would log in and see several hundred posts on things I had commented on. It was completely wrecking my productivity. I couldn't sleep as I lay in bed and bounced point and counter-point off of the ceiling to see what would stick and what would make those "other guys" spit out their cereal in rage. I was mainlining, posting comments on the tritest of seeds, just to get out there and say my two cents.
So I quit. I walked away.
Sure, I tried the other drugs. Digg sucked me in for a while, but it gave me major headaches. I jumped on the Twitter bandwagon, but had to shut off my AIM every day thanks to messages like "@SoandSo - Really?" and "@ThatGuy - No way! It happened to me too!" 140 some characters makes everyone speak in pronouns, and if you aren't networked in on the whole conversation, Twitter can actually make you feel MORE isolated and alone.
Then I found myself in the real dregs... posting comments in the Indianapolis Star's message boards, and on Yahoo! Stories. It was like I couldn't stop... the need to express my stupid opinion and moral self righteousness to people with nicknames like bigB00BLuvr69 who can't spell "Bush" without adding on "!!!!!1111111" to his name like some electric typewriter gone mad with sticky keys from a spilled soda. Foreign policy to these people is whether to eat chinese or tacos for dinner.
So I'm back. But I'm not going to fall under the evil NV spell again. This time, I'm going to limit my interaction with the board in my off work hours. (Which, being an independent consultant is basically never, but I'll come up with something.) I promise myself that I will NOT just opin at any "BUSH IS THE BEST PRESIDENT EVER!" or "LIBERALS EAT KITTENS WITH CANADIAN BBQ SAUCE!" thread I see. I promise to be levelheaded, subtle, and to think before I actually submit a comment.
That will work. Yes. I think so...
